Assumptions That We Make
Some give to charities
And think they serve The Master
Expecting that by giving
They’ve got God duped and flattered
Such is the way many live today
They may quote the bible
But they refuse to obey it
But when our days fade
And we're forced to meet our fate
What about our soul
Once it’s all too late?
We think God isn’t watching
Just because He’s silent
Or that by “good deeds”
We’ll avoid chastisement
But it’s quite a gamble
If we never really learn
That salvation is a “gift”
That we can never earn
For the only ones who please
The God who watches all
Are those who help the helpless
When they see them fall
For it doesn’t really matter
The size of our estate
If we leave “Lazarus,”
Begging at our gate
The world may shout our praises
But make no mistake
We'll all have to answer
For the assumptions that we make.
