LADY WISDOM
(Adaptation of Proverb 8)
Do you hear Lady Wisdom calling?
She hails down the passers by
Offering flowers with centers of gold
24 karat for the taking!
Where is she to be found?
In the boardrooms on Wall Street?
No, she stands at the intersections of life
Anywhere common people meet
She offers the winos her seat on the bus
And stands content by her captive audience
“Perhaps this life can be salvaged” she says
As she gets out her medicine bag
And starts to bandage
Here a hurt, there a knife wound
The bleeding never stops when your soul is leaking
She chews gum called “Truth”
As she tends to a tired soul in a broken body
A priest gets on at the last stop
Bumping her hard as he presses by
She looks at him with sad eyes
Disappointed that he doesn’t recognize her
Still she works, handing out life
To those who will love her
Substantial honor is deposited into
The bank account of life for those
Who have their passbooks out and open
Here she comes, heading this way!
- Do you have yours?
